Local 2 /Hospitality Industry Child & Elder Care Plan Quality Child Care Survey Project
The Network has partnered with the Local 2/Hospitality Industry Child & Elder Care Plan and the Labor Project for Working Families at University of California, Berkeley to conduct a study of child care choices made by working families. We had the unique opportunity to survey and interview parents working in the hotel/hospitality industry that received financial assistance for their child care through their union. The interviews were conducted in English, Cantonese, and Spanish in order to address the diverse population represented in this industry. The parents were asked about their current child care arrangements, reasons for choosing care, and what barriers they encountered when choosing care. Analysis of the data began in December 2001 and continued through the beginning of 2002.
